We first became involved with Cymon Allfrey Architects six years ago when the September 2010 earthquakes in Christchurch extensively damaged my circa 1905 Arts and Crafts style house in Merivale. At the time the house was deemed fixable and CAA was engaged to design and supervise repairs sympathetic to the heritage nature of the house. The earthquake of 22 February, 2011 destroyed any hope of repairs.

We briefed Cymon Allfrey Architects and they designed an iconic modern house of a similar size set on a different part of the site to open up the northern aspect of the house and optimize the usable open space and gardens. We retained as many of the mature trees in the garden as possible. Incredibly detailed drawings and specifications were produced. Delays by insurance meant that contracts with the builder were not signed until 2014.

Our home, a complex build has now been successfully completed. Our house looks spectacular and we are delighted with the result. It is fair to say that without the input of Cymon Allfrey Architects it would not have been constructed with the astounding attention to detail that has been achieved. We were fortunate that their team was able to work so closely in partnership with the on-site building manager. This was crucial to the final finely detailed result.

We would unhesitatingly recommend CAA to anyone who is intending to build a large, complex home of outstanding design and construction.
